Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt Divorce Update

Posted By Law Office of Robert W. Kovacs, Jr. || 24-Sep-2018

The divorce proceeding between Hollywood actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pit has received a significant amount of coverage from various media outlets. Much of what has been discussed centers around disputes involving child support and custody rights. In this blog, we give you the latest update on this high net worth divorce.

Once the talk of Hollywood, Jolie and Pitt have been unable to come to terms on a custody agreement for their children. A report came out that said the two agreed on terms, however, E! News reports the claim was false and that Jolie and Pitt's original court ordered agreement is still being enforced.

Pitt and Jolie have six children together:

  • Maddox Jolie-Pitt, age 17
  • Pax Jolie-Pitt, age 14
  • Zahara Jolie-Pitt, age 13
  • Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, age 12
  • Knox Jolie-Pitt, age 10
  • Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, age 10

According to one insider with knowledge of the divorce, “In terms of the kids' relationship with Brad, Angelina definitely remains committed to helping the kids heal with their father."

Jolie and Pit were together over 10 years and were married for 2 years. Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt almost two years ago. In August, Jolie claimed that Pitt wasn’t paying any "meaningful" child support since their divorce proceedings started back in 2016.

A two-page brief that was filed in L.A. Superior Court says Pitt "has a duty to pay child support." Jolie's lawyer said “Given the informal arrangements around the payment of the children's expenses have not been regularly sustained by [Pitt] for over a year and a half,” her client plans to petition for a court order "for the establishment of a retroactive child support order."

Brad Pitt’s team of attorneys responded with a court filing of their own. Pitt's attorneys filed a four-page brief with the L.A. Superior Court which claims that Jolie's request is "unnecessary, omits material information and is a thinly-veiled effort to manipulate media coverage." Pitt’s new court filing "adamantly disputes the contention the he has not paid significant child support." The court papers also say that Pitt previously loaned Jolie $8 million to "assist her in purchasing her current residence." Additionally, the filing claims Pitt has paid over $1.3 million in bills "for the benefit" of Jolie and their minor children.
